Example 1: System for DNA oligo synthesis companies

Example 2: System for DNA sequencing companies
- Smart sequencing requesting. If virtual constructs or Genbank IDs are available, this tool analyzes the properties of the sequencing constructs, picks the right sequencing primers, records all information (colonies picked, regions to be sequenced, primers picked, and so on), and automatically send out / prints sequencing packing slips.
- Automated sequencing result analysis. This tool takes sequencing results and compares them to the virtual constructs (or Genbank IDs). It truncates the “bad” sequencing results (too many “N”s) based on statistical analysis, performs fast sequence alignment, and reports the mutations, insertions, and deletions. In addition, the tool reports the “Perfect” region of the sequencing results, eliminating manual reading of the chromtograms. With this tool, analysis of sequencing results can be fully automated.

Example 3: System for transgenic animal facilities
- Complete coverage from service requesting to payment tracking. The system allows users to submit service request on-line, tracking project progress, and check off payment. The system allows facility members to track animal manipulation, ES cell manipulation and injection, animal information tracking, and generate project progress report.
- Barcode-enabled ES cell storage information tracking. The system integrated BxAF LabStorage system so that freezer items, including stored ES Cells for each customer are tracked with barcodes.

Example 4: LIMS
for molecular biological laboratories
- Centralized storage, update, access control, and system configuration
- World-wide access and intuitive user interface
- Bioinformatics integration
- Electronic lab notebooks
- Instant result reports and dynamic project progress reports
- Forward information flow
- SQL: universal database connection and data exchange
- Multi-level control of security and automatic daily backup
- Cost-effective: taking advantage of the "free" resources

Example 5: A project information management system
- File Sharing. This tool solves the problem of sharing documents with high security. Only group members can access your shared files; nevertheless, they can not modify your shared files. It provides tools to manipulate directories and files (create, upload and download, delete, copy, move, and search). In addition, this module provides tree-view of directories and files.
- On-line File Storing. This tool saves files on-line with high security. Only file owners can access their files. It provides tools to manipulate directories and files (create, upload and download, delete, copy, move, and search). In addition, this module provides tree-view of directories and files.
- Group e-mails. WYSIWYG interface to compose HTML messages, capability to attach multiple files, and connection to database, allowing saving e-mails in database instead of on server. The composer is connected to database, allowing to send group e-mails, attach both client and server side files, and integrated with other tools.
- Public Discussion Forum. This tool enables users to discuss certain topics on-line instead of sending e-mails back and forth. All posted messages can be reviewed at any time anywhere with internet connection. A search tool provides great convenience to find previously posted messages.
- Private Group Discussion Forum. This tool enables users to discuss certain topics on-line among selected group members instead of sending e-mails back and forth. All posted messages can be reviewed at any time anywhere with internet connection. A search tool provides great convenience to find previously posted messages.
- Group-based Daily Task Management. This tool enables managing daily tasks. Registered users (assigners) can create new tasks for others (assignee). Assignee can add follow-ups to the tasks, update the task status, or delegate the task to others. The assigner can also re-assign the task to others. Both assigners and assignee will be able to review the tasks in real time. The task passed due time will be highlighted. File attachments are allowed. Automated e-mails will be sent out whenever task status has been changed.
- Group-based Announcements and Events. A good place to post announcements and group events. Readers can post follow-ups.
- Private Daily Notes. This tool provides a "diary"-like functions for users to record their daily notes. Only the owner can review the notes.
